Blackjack Strategy: Increase Your Chances of Winning

Blackjack is the most popular card game offered by casinos across the world. And one of the most important things you learn as a blackjack player is that having a good blackjack strategy can immensely improve your chances of winning the game. Here, we discuss the different blackjack strategies that you should incorporate in your next game.

The Basic Blackjack Strategy

Blackjack is a game of player decisions. Unlike other casino games, when playing blackjack, your choices will affect how the hand plays out and contribute to the wins or losses of the players. Because of this, experts have made a proven strategy that increases your chances of winning when playing the game.

Below are the different variations of the basic strategy. Familiarizing yourself with these can drastically increase your chances of winning.

Blackjack Surrender Strategy

Using this strategy can help you save your wagers earlier in the game. For instance, after considering your initial two-card hand and the dealer’s upcard is higher than yours and you feel that your chance of winning the hand is low, you can surrender, saving you half the amount of your initial bet.

The following are different variations of the blackjack surrender strategy.

Late Blackjack Surrender

You can only surrender your cards after the dealer peeks at their hole card when they show you a ten or an ace, to determine if they have blackjack. If the dealer has blackjack, you will lose your entire wager unless you have the same hand value. However, if you use the late surrender properly, it can help reduce the house edge by around 0.07% in multiple-deck games.

Early Blackjack Surrender

You can surrender your hand to a dealer’s ace or ten-value upcard before the dealer checks to see if they have a blackjack. It is more favorable than the late surrender because using it against the ace gains you up to 0.39 percent and 0.24 percent against the ten-value card, stacking up to a total value of 0.63 percent for a six-deck s17 game.

Blackjack Pair Splitting Strategy

In blackjack, when a player is dealt with a pair of similar ranked initial cards, the player can split these into separate hands and ask the dealer for new additional cards for each hand value while placing equal wagers on each. Below is a different variation of the blackjack pair splitting strategy.

Never Split Tens

If you have a pair of 10s, never split them as it increases your chances of winning. If you have a couple of 5s, that counts as a hard ten, splitting the 5s and playing them on separate hands bring you on a lower value to the 21 points.

Card Counting

It is a system that allows you to achieve a positive expectation while playing the game, putting the house edge in your favor. Because of its high rate of success, most land-based casinos prohibit this strategy. You can incorporate this strategy by creating a tracking system in your mind by keeping track of what cards have been dealt in blackjack.
